In Appreciation of Creative Writing
Ahh! The Wonder of Words
A heartfelt welcome to all the lovely writers and readers who stop by this page.
Do you dig great literature?
Do you love a good story?
Are you drawn to the literary arts?
If you’re anything like me, the answer to each of these questions is yes.
Maybe, like me, you find it difficult to select only one favorite writer, novel, poem, play. Maybe the more you read, your choices for a favorite piece of prose—fiction or nonfiction—keeps growing.
For me, meeting up with a good story, a great read, is deeply satisfying, a reminder that there are still treasures to be had.
If some of your favorite hangouts are the public library and indie bookshops, you know the unmatched joy of holding a book in your hands. And no doubt, like me, if it’s a new hardback, you wait for that sweet sound the spine gives as you open it. At the turning of that first crisp page, you are already curious about the characters and their stories that await you. If it’s a classic, you feel honored to cradle it in the palm of your hand, its pages well-loved, creased and yellowed from its years of literary offering.
“Never pass on the chance to get cozy with a good book”
Have you ever read a novel or short story that was unputdownable? How about one that you didn’t want to end, that when it did end, your first impulse was to go back to the opening page and start again? Have you ever been deeply moved by a piece of literature?
Perhaps if you have, you understand my love for a good story, for creative writing and why it has always been a part of who I am: a reader; a fiction writer.
Want to know what’s around the corner, what’s emerging? If so, check out the works of creative writers. They have their pulses on it. They are used to communing with the muse, spending time in contemplation, tuning in to guidance. They play on the edge of the ordinary, ink their pens with what is ready to be noticed.
“A new earth requires fresh stories.”
It can be said that creative writers work in service to others. After all, they explore and write about the human experience. A good piece of literature, in addition to entertaining us, carries the possibility of uniting us, inspiring us, changing our perspectives.
These are some of the reasons I appreciate creative writing and the writers who give us it. Perhaps these are the reasons I’ve been called to write.
When You find yourself in the mood for a quick read, I invite you to check out a few of my published short fiction pieces below:
